Adventure Mauna Kea Stargazing
World-class stargazing at nearly 14,000 feet, above 40% of Earth's atmosphere. Free nightly stargazing programs at the Visitor Information Station (9,200 ft) from 6-10pm.
Water Sports Snorkeling
Richardson Ocean Park is Hilo's best-protected snorkeling spot. For world-class snorkeling, day-trip to Kealakekua Bay or Two-Step (Honaunau) on the Kona side.
Adventure Manta Ray Night Dive
Called 'the best night dive in the world.' Kona has ~250 manta rays with a 96% sighting rate at Manta Village. Watch rays somersault while feeding on plankton!
Adventure Zip-Lining
Hawaii Zipline Tours near Akaka Falls was voted #1 in Hawaii - soar over 250-ft Kolekole Waterfall! The Umauma Experience features 9 lines over 14 waterfalls.
Cultural Kona Coffee Farm Tours
Visit the famous Kona coffee belt (1.5 hrs from Hilo). Greenwell Farms was voted Hawaii's Best Farm Tour 2021-2025. Many offer free tours and tastings!
Water Sports Kayaking & SUP
Explore Hilo Bay by kayak or stand-up paddleboard. Calm morning waters are perfect for beginners. Watch for sea turtles, dolphins, and occasional whales!
Wildlife Whale Watching
Humpback whales visit Hawaii December-April to breed and nurse. Peak season is January-March. Boat tours offer close encounters, or watch from shore with binoculars.
